Botox and Fillers Q&A

What is Botox?

Botox is the world’s leading temporary treatment for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. Tens of thousands of people have tried Botox, and many are so pleased with their results that they return for additional treatments.

Botox is formulated from a carefully controlled volume of a neurotoxin called Clostridium botulinum. When injected into targeted muscles, Botox prevents those muscle fibers from going through their full range of motion.

This keeps your facial muscles from pulling and tugging your skin into lines, folds, and wrinkles, but you’ll still be able to create regular facial expressions. Results last around four months, at which point you can decide if you’d like to have another round of injections.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that replace or enhance facial volume. Young people have a thick layer of collagen that acts as natural padding, creating the rounded contouring known as a “baby face.” Over the years, you lose much of that collagen, leaving your skin to sag and pool into lines, folds, and wrinkles.

Many dermal fillers are made of synthetic hyaluronic acid, a substance your body produces naturally. There are many different fillers to choose from, each formulated to treat a specific area of the face. Thicker fillers are used in smile lines and marionette lines, as well as the cheeks. Thinner fillers are great for use in fine lines around the eyes and lips.

Dermal fillers can last from four months to more than a year, depending on the type used.

What is a liquid facelift?

A liquid facelift is a term used to describe a combination of injectable treatments. In the hands of skilled physicians, njectables can be used in various areas of your face to create beautiful and natural-looking results.

At Southern Skin and Beauty Bar, a board-certified dermatologist performs all injectable treatments. When deciding whether to try Botox or dermal fillers, be wary of choosing a source that does not use medical professionals for aesthetic injectables. Dermatologists have advanced training in all aspects of skin care and know where to place injections safely.

If you’d like more information about Botox, dermal fillers, or other injectable treatment options, come in for a face-to-face consultation. Booking a visit takes just a few moments online or by phone.
